Answer

“VDD Overload” Error — General Explanation
Case 1: Check the Target Cable
– Inspect for shorts, damaged conductors, or miswiring.
– Keep the cable short and ensure proper shielding/grounding.

Case 2: Target Is Externally Powered
– Set VDD source = Target to avoid conflicts between power sources.
– Verify that T_VDD is connected so the ICP can sense the external voltage.

Case 3: Target Is Powered by the ICP
– Ensure VddMin/VddMax are set according to your PCB requirements.
– Increase Vdd-to-Vpp delay (example: from 4 ms to 50 ms) to allow VDD capacitors to charge.
– Always power the ICP from its 12V supply (not USB-only) to enable up to 250mA VDD current.
– Verify that ICP’s VDD is not applied to your LDO output (if present); many LDOs cannot accept output voltage with an unpowered input.

Recommended Debug Method
– Debug your setup in full PC-driven mode.
